How to Plan a Montana Road Trip

The rolling wilderness, national parks, and wildlife of Montana are well-known. For individuals who enjoy the outdoors, hiking, and other such activities, this state is a dream come true. I’m here to help you plan a Montana road trip by providing you with the ideal plan and Kalispell hotels to stay in Montana, so you can relax and enjoy your travel time!

Getting To Montana

Billings Logan International Airport, Bozeman Yellowstone International Airport, Missoula International Airport, and Glacier Park International Airport are all choices for flying into Montana. However, if you want to mix things up a little and discover what works best for you, you can fly into any airport. Many major airlines, including United, Delta, Alaska, and others, fly into Montana.

When Is The Best Time To Visit Montana?

Montana’s weather is unpredictable, so anticipate it to swing from one extreme to the other. You’ll want to bring a range of clothing to be comfortable during the hot summer days and cool evenings, as the window for visiting is very small.

Late August/early September is the best time to visit. Not only will the majority of the tourists have left, but you’ll also be spared from some of the state’s raging forest fires during the summer. In addition, although certain national park facilities may be closed by late September, you will still be able to see some stunning fall colours. However, if you visit Glacier National Park too late in September, everything in the park will close down due to snow.

What Should You Bring With You To Montana?

Here are some must-haves for your trip:

Rain Jacket: Just as you should bring a just-in-case warm jacket, you should also get a just-in-case rain jacket. This one also collapses into a small, lightweight ball that you can fit into your day bag.

Packable Down Jacket: The weather in Montana may be fickle, especially when you’re in/around/near the mountains. The prediction in Montana isn’t to be trusted! This down jacket folds up into a tiny ball of fluff and will keep you hot when you need it. Keep one in your bag; you’ll likely forget it’s there until you need it.

Water Bottle: The higher you go in altitude, the more water you’ll need! Bring your own reusable water bottle to help keep Montana’s outdoors clean and free of plastic. This one is great since the insulation will keep your water ice cold or your coffee hot for hours!
